General Visitors Information

The Durban Botanic Gardens is situated in the City of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is Durban’s oldest public institution and Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden.

Entrance to the Gardens is FREE.

Donations are appreciated.

Information Office

The Information Office is situated at the Visitors Complex and is managed by the Durban Botanic Gardens Trust. The role of this office is to provide visitor services to all visitors. The Information Office can provide basic visitor information and will direct an enquiry to the relevant specialist where more information is required.

Gourmet Coffee is situated at the Visitors Complex and serves specialty take-away coffees and light refreshments.

Nearly all areas of the Garden are accessible by wheelchair.
The Visitor Complex Information Office has a wheelchair available for hire.

There are several marked parking bays situated at the Visitors Complex parking.

Paraplegic toilet is available at the Visitors Complex.
Baby changing facility is available at the Visitors Complex.

The Gardens provides a range of school curriculum-based educational programmes throughout the year. Our education programme is designed to support teachers in integrating the environment across the school curriculum.
